Huei’s Garden

The Making of Huei's Garden

In 1980, Huei and Frank Young purchased a blank lot in Davis and embarked on a dream. Their very first step was rebuilding the back fence and improving the soil, but the real transformation would take place slowly — over twenty years of patching, planting, and painstaking redesign. What began as a simple backyard became an enduring labor of love, evolving inch by inch into the lush, harmonious space you see today.

From day one it wasn’t easy — materials, time and budget were all in short supply — but Huei’s vision of rock, wood, water and flora together with Frank's paintings guided every addition. As the garden grew, it became clear this was no ordinary home landscape, but a flowing blend of Chinese and Japanese influences, stitched together by the principles of Feng Shui.
